My core belief in education is that cultural awareness is essential in providing an equal learning environment for all students. Better educational outcomes result from using a student's culture as the foundation for learning, setting clear expectations, and changing the curriculum to represent the diversity of students better. All students can learn something new every day.
I plan to implement that core philosophy by creating an environment where students can learn in their own unique and individual ways. I also believe in the importance of inclusion, acceptance of others' differences and our own, and the teaching and promotion of empathy.
To excite students to learn in the ways that best suit their needs, my goal is to provide lessons that include a variety of learning methods. Active engagement will be a significant part of my teaching technique. Using guided practice, sometimes known as the "I do, we do, you do" method, is one of the instructional strategies I will utilize regularly. To successfully develop the skills required to complete the assignment assigned to them independently, I believe it is important for all students to observe me modeling the expectations and working on them together until the material is fully understood.
Active learning strategies such as project-based learning, small group learning, case-based learning, and group discussions with turn-and-talks are ways that I will design, adapt, and deliver instruction to address each student's diverse learning strengths and needs. I believe active learning is an extremely valuable tool in teaching since it gives every student a voice and choices and allows us to learn from one another. I will create opportunities for students to demonstrate their learning in different ways by combining students with various learning abilities, interests, language proficiencies, and other skill strengths into groups to provide peer support throughout a lesson, as well as give creative project-based options to demonstrate their learning.
For my students to have the best learning outcomes, I believe in keeping a structured classroom environment with routine, daily procedures, and standards to follow and keeping the students accountable. I will keep a clean and organized classroom with materials that are easily accessible and in the most efficient and least disruptive way for my students and me to be successful. I will also strive to make my classroom a safe place for students to interact with each other when appropriate. By having clear expectations regarding my classroom structure, routines, and procedures, I will keep each student accountable for their learning and for themselves.
As an educator, my ultimate goal is to meet each student's needs by delivering high-quality, individualized instruction. I want to create an exciting, helpful learning environment where my students can learn without judgment, have the freedom to express themselves, and let their voices be heard while also feeling safe and secure.
